FROM THE SECRETARIAT: Enter 2015 – the buzz is “Social Protection”
2015 has kicked off with yet some more exciting developments around the issues of social protection and more importantly cash transfers in Africa. Indeed the importance of Social Protection cannot be over-emphasised, it has become the buzz word for both development practitioners, governments and international organisation. We at the SADC BIG Secretariat are excited by such developments.
In this first issue of 2015 – Our Special Issue we share information, news, updates and analysis on the basic income grant/ cash transfers as well as providing space for broader discussion on social protection as a whole.
At the Secretariat we are currently in the process of undertaking an Audit of the Coalition Members to ensure that we have accurate figures of how the support for a SADC BIG is growing through endorsements and also expressions of interest to Campaign at both the national and regional level. This is in cognisant of the fact that the strength of the campaign lies in the active alliances and advocacy from Coalition partners
