2016 has been a momentous year in relation to wage policy in South Africa,specifically as we see the progress reached on the negotiations on the National Minimum Wage and Labour Relations.The idea of a national minimum wage as one way to address the crippling levels of poverty and inequality in South Africa was contained as one of the primary freedoms contained in the Freedom Charter which was adopted by the Congress of the People, in Kliptown, Johannesburg, on 26 June 1955.
