SA REMAINS well ahead in the league tables of the world’s economically most unequal nations. We may even still have the unenviable title of world champion in the measure of inequality, with a Gini coefficient of 63.4. But we are not alone in this challenge. Finding the cure for economic inequality may well be the primary pre-occupation of most governments’ economic policy formulation. It’s a big deal, it’s about votes, and that’s about power.
